Box Office Wrap - June 2nd

After last week's record breaking money, this week things are for the most part uneventful.

  1. Fast & Furious 6 - $34,500,000
  2. Now You See Me - $28.000,000
  3. After Earth - $27,000,000
  4. Epic - $16,400,000
  5. Star Trek Into Darkness - $16,400,000
  6. The Hangover Part III - $15,900,000

A few things to note about this weekend:
  • Fast & Furious 6 fell pretty hard from last week's numbers, that that is standard for this series
  • The Rock has had a film in the top 10 since the month of February
  • Now You See Me did better than expected
  • After Earth both underperformed and demonstrated once again that M. Night Shyamalan can't seem to please audiences or critics anymore
  • Star Trek is show decent legs considering the competition, but not as strong as it's predecessor
  • The Hangover Part III is trailing far behind Part II

Star Trek Leads the Weekend

As a surprise to no one, Star Trek Into Darkness will be victorious this weekend.  To the surprise of many, it's opening weekend was only slightly ahead of it's predecessor.

  1. Star Trek Into Darkness - $70,000,000
  2. Iron Man 3 - $35, 182,000
  3. The Great Gatsby - $23,415,000
  4. Pain & Gain - $3,100,000
  5. The Croods - $2,750,000

While the opening weekend started off a bit disappointing in the United States, oversees the film is tracking 80% of the previous film.  Likewise, the last film had very strong legs during it's run.  If this film has similar legs, the film will end up making more money for the studio due to the foreign gross.
